Why Go
Taliparamba is a trading town in Kannur District, Kerala, known for spices and hill produce. The undulating hills surrounding the town create an exceptionally beautiful landscape, with lush green fields and rolling hills in the nearby villages of Pattuvam, Kuttikkol, and Karimbam. The Kuppam and Valapattanam rivers frame the town, and the Arabian Sea lies just 14 km west. Unlike tourist-heavy destinations, Taliparamba sees few visitors, meaning you will get plenty of attention without inflated tourist prices.

Taliparamba lies 10 km from Kannapuram railway station, which is the nearest railhead. The nearest airport is Kozhikode International Airport, approximately 120 km to the south. Public buses connect Taliparamba with nearby cities Kannur and Payyanur regularly.
Get Around
Autorickshaws charge ₹15.00 per kilometer. Local buses are very economical at ₹7.00 for approximately three kilometers. Walking is not recommended as motorcycles and two-wheelers are prevalent even on village roads and can be a hazard.

The Raja Rajeshwara Temple is a world-famous pilgrim center on Temple Road, about 1 km from town. The ancient Valiya Juma Masjidh inside Taliparamba Market is a very old mosque building. The Krishna Temple at Trichambaram, just 1 km away, is mentioned in many Malayalam devotional songs. The District Agricultural Farm at Karimbam, 5 km away, was established in 1905 by Sir Charles Alfred Barber and is the oldest continuously-operating government farm in Kerala, featuring 56 acres of biodiversity including coconut, areca nut, cashew, coffee, cocoa, nutmeg, clove, and pepper crops.

Nature walks are a highlight: cross the hanging bridge at Kuttiyeri (7 km), explore Kolthuruthy Island with its coconut and areca nut groves (10 km), or walk through the wide paddy fields of Ezhom village (12 km). For adventure, climb Paithal Mala Hills in Naduvil Village (36 km) for spectacular flat summit views ideal for camping—beware of leeches and elephants. The Seven Hills (Ezhu Kunnu in Malayalam) can be viewed from Kuppam bridge, 3 km from town, with trekking starting from Kuttiyeri Hills. Water sports are available at Vismaya Water Theme Park in Parassinikkadavu, 10 km away.

Local bakeries offer unique snacks. Jowhar Bakery on Main Road, 1 km away, serves mussel fry called 'Arikkadukka' or 'Kallummakkaya.' Muttayappam is a distinctive Taliparamba food—rice prepared in oil shaped like a fried egg but without egg, typically found at roadside stalls and known to disappear quickly.

Many restaurants line the national highway. Indian Coffee House on the National Highway, 1 km away, is part of the well-known chain. Food Land Restaurant at Manna Junction is popular for masala-dipped muttayappam and flame-cooked chicken. Jamaliyya Restaurant at Chapparappadavu is famous for chicken biriyani and beef biriyani. Kareem's Thattukada at Kakkathode serves muttayappam with flame-cooked chicken. For vegetarian thali lunch, numerous local spots offer the traditional Kerala spread. Le Bonne Restaurant in Pariyaram serves near the Medical College area.

Tender Cafe on Keechery, Kannur Road, is popular for tender coconut shakes at ₹60. Samrat Bar on the highway serves alcoholic beverages.

Budget accommodations cluster near the busstand and main road areas. Shams Tourist Home near Federal Bank offers rooms from ₹500. Sea Land Tourist Home is near the busstand, about 1 km away.
