Stung Treng is a small riverside town in northeast Cambodia that feels more like an outpost than a destination. Many tourists only pass through en route to or from Laos, as nearby Banlung and Kratie offer more excitement and activities.

US dollars are widely accepted for accommodation and transport. Acleda Bank near the market has an ATM for US dollar withdrawals. Money changers at the market offer better rates than the bank for Cambodian riel and Lao kip.
Safety
Stung Treng is generally safe for travelers. Standard precautions apply. The town has limited infrastructure, so be prepared for basic services.
Transport
The town is walkable. Motodops (motorcycle taxis) cost a couple of thousand riel for short trips. Buses to Phnom Penh and Kratie depart from the town centre around 07:00.
