Southwest National Park encompasses 10% of Tasmania and forms part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Site. The park offers some of Australia's most untouched wilderness, with landscapes resembling southern Canada more than typical Australian terrain.

Mobile phone coverage is unavailable throughout most of the park. Inform someone of your plans before entering remote areas.
Money
There are no ATMs or card facilities in the park. Carry sufficient cash for the duration of your stay. Withdraw funds in Huonville or other towns before entering.
Packing
Bring all supplies including food, water, fuel, and equipment. No services exist within the park. A detailed map, compass/GPS, and emergency supplies are essential.
Safety
The park's remote nature means emergency services are far away. Carry a personal locator beacon, first aid kit, and comprehensive safety gear. Weather can change rapidly.
Transport
Fuel is unavailable within the park. Fill up before entering. Paravion flights from Hobart Airport serve Melaleuca airstrip. Gordon River Road provides vehicle access to Strathgordon.
Weather
Expect over 2000mm annual rainfall, strong winds, low temperatures, and frequent cloud cover year-round. Come prepared for all conditions regardless of season.
