Overview
Somoto is a small city in Nicaragua's Northern Highlands famous for the dramatic Somoto Canyon, a 200m-deep gorge with sheer 100m cliffs that at some points is only a few meters wide. The canyon offers a rugged adventure experience with rock formations and wildlife, drawing trekkers and adventure tourists.

WiFi is available at Namancambre hostel. Mobile coverage is limited but functional for basic calls and SMS.

Budget meals at Comedor Familiar (breakfast C$50) and the market bakery (pastries C$5). Local specialty rosquillas are corn-and-cheese rings available at the market.
Safety
The canyon swim requires caution; certain deep sections are far for non-swimmers and life jackets are not always provided independently. Avoid solo canyon exploration in the upper sections during high water.
Transport
Buses from Managua to Somoto require a transfer in Estelí at Cotran Norte; hourly departures from Estelí. Taxis within town cost C$20 per person.
