Overview
The Solentiname Islands are a remote archipelago of 36 islands (5 inhabited) in the southeast corner of Lake Nicaragua. Popular with artists, the islands offer pristine nature, indigenous petroglyphs, and a charming church built by poet-priest Ernesto Cardenal on Isla Mancarrón.

Packing
Bring everything you need—supplies are extremely limited on the islands. Include sun protection, cash, and basic medications.
Safety
Very safe area with no crime concerns. Swimming safety improved after shark population decline, though pollution in Lake Nicaragua warrants caution.
