The Similan Islands are Thailand's top diving destination, renowned for massive underwater granite boulders, vibrant coral reefs, and exceptional visibility reaching 30+ meters. The park covers 140 km² of pristine Andaman Sea, offering world-famous dive sites like Elephant Head Rock and East of Eden.

Before you go
Accommodation
No overnight stays allowed since 2018 accommodation demolition. Stay on liveaboard vessels or at mainland bases like Khao Lak, Phuket, or Ko Lanta.
Money
No ATMs exist in the park. Bring all cash needed for park fees (500 THB/day foreigners), diving fees (200 THB/day), food, and souvenirs. Day-trip and liveaboard costs are paid to operators separately.
Safety
Elephant Head Rock has dangerous spin-cycle currents. Divers need proper certification and current experience. Park closes May-November; illegal access during closure.
Transport
Most visitors access via day trips or liveaboards from Khao Lak (50 km east), Phuket, Ko Lanta, or Ranong. Marine park boats provide inter-island transport but aren't entirely reliable.
Weather
Open season runs mid-October through mid-May. March offers the best conditions with calm winds and crystal-clear water. Avoid May 16-November 15 when the park closes due to monsoons.
