Overview
Shuklaphanta National Park covers 305 km² of open grassland, sal forests, riverbeds, and tropical wetlands in Nepal's Western Tarai. It is said to be among the largest open grasslands in South Asia and is home to populations of swamp deer, tigers, elephants, and one-horned rhinos.

Safety
Wild elephants and rhinos present in park; always use a local guide for jungle walks. Exercise caution with motorcycle taxi transport at night.
Transport
Dhangadhi Airport is the nearest air access; taxi to park costs NPR 3000. Mahendranagar bazaar is 3 km from park entrance with motorcycle taxis and E-tuk tuks readily available.
Weather
Subtropical climate: summer up to 45°C, winter as low as 8-9°C. Best visited during dry season for wildlife viewing.
