Overview
Shilin (Stone Forest) is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007, featuring massive karst pillars formed by erosion that look like something from a fantasy film. The park is too large to see in one day, with multiple areas containing winding paths through interesting nooks and crannies.

Before you go
Money
The sole local bank ATM often does not work, and currency exchange is not available. Bring sufficient cash before arriving at the park.
Packing
Bring a hat—the altitude means strong sun. Carry two liters of water per person. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for the winding paths.
Timing
Visit early morning to avoid large tour crowds. The park is too large to see completely in one day.
Transport
Last bus to Kunming departs at 18:00 from the scenic area bus station. Tickets cost ¥34. From Kunming East, take bus K9 (¥2), metro (¥3-4), or taxi.
