Overview
Sevastopol is a storied Black Sea port and one of Crimea’s major tourist destinations, drawing visitors from Commonwealth of Independent States countries. The city is famous for its Crimean War history, World War II memorials (one of thirteen Hero Cities of the Great Patriotic War), and Byzantine ruins at Chersonesus Taurica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Vladimir the Great was baptized in 988 AD.

Few locals speak English. Learning basic Russian phrases greatly improves interactions. Sevastopol has strong naval traditions and war memorial culture.

Russian domestic debit and credit cards work in most shops but not markets. Foreign banks avoid the region due to sanctions. ATMs are plentiful. Currency typically Russian rubles (RUB).
Transport
Marshrutkas (mini-buses) and city buses are economical but crowded. Ferries cross the bay to north-side beaches. Car rental starts from US$10/day. No English maps available; obtain Cyrillic maps from press kiosks.
Weather
Summer brings tourists and tented beach bars. Beaches at Lyubimovka and Uchkuyevka are crowded in peak season.
