Before you go

Connectivity

No cellular coverage or internet in the reserve. Satellite phones are the only communication option. Inform contacts of your itinerary before arrival.

Health

Malaria prophylaxis is recommended. Medical facilities are extremely limited in the reserve. Comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is essential.

Money

Park fees must be paid in US dollars cash at most locations. Credit cards are generally not accepted within the reserve. Bring sufficient cash for fees, tips, and purchases.

Safety

Always use armed rangers for walks. Be aware of wildlife proximity during game drives and boat safaris. The remote location means emergency response is slow.

Transport

Most visitors fly from Dar es Salaam to Selous airstrips. Self-driving is possible in dry season but requires 4x4 and is challenging. No public transport exists within the reserve.
