Overview
São João del Rei is the largest of the colonial mining towns in Minas Gerais, offering a more relaxed alternative to its famous neighbor Ouro Preto. While it lacks Ouro Preto's stunning geographical setting and abundance of churches, the town provides a pleasant atmosphere for a few days of relaxation.
