Overview
Santa Rosa National Park is Costa Rica's oldest national park, established in 1970 and expanded in 1977. The park preserves a large area of dry tropical forest and together with Guanacaste National Park and neighboring parks forms a contiguous protected area providing suitable habitat with sufficient space for large cats like jaguars and pumas, as well as myriad other species.

Before you go
Fees
Park entrance: ¢1,100 for citizens, US$15 for foreigners. Camping: US$4/person/night plus entry ticket. Credit cards accepted.
Hours
Park entrance open daily from 8am to 3:30pm. Plan accordingly for day hikes.
Water
Bring at least 4 liters of water per day per person. Filtration or chemical treatment may work. Water available at park entrance and other locations.
Weather
Dry season December to April; wet season May to November with brief afternoon showers. Veranillo de San Juan dry spell in late July/early August.
