Overview
Mompox (also spelled Mompós) is a friendly, sleepy town on an island on the Magdalena River that thrived during colonial times as the main resting port for ships traveling from Cartagena to Honda. It has beautiful colonial architecture that rivals Villa de Leyva's, and the historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
