Overview
San José de Jáchal is a quiet colonial town of 10,993 inhabitants in the northeast of San Juan province, serving as the head town of Jáchal Department. The town offers access to thermal baths, scenic mountain drives from La Rioja, and proximity to Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Moon Valley).

Limited accommodation—book ahead, especially Hotel San Martin which is often sold out. Camping available 3 km outside town at Municipal El Vivero.
Activities
Hot springs only open in summer. Ischigualasto Provincial Park is a major draw for day trips. Tourist office can arrange drivers for out-of-town sites.

Food
Restaurants around the plaza often open late in the evening. Try the traditional patay at Confitería Garces, operating since 1928.
Transport
Buses to San Juan operate daily via Vallecito, Clasur, and TAC. From La Rioja, only 20 DE JUNIO offers a day bus. The bus terminal is at Presidente Perón and Laprida.
