Overview
Retezat National Park is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Romania and probably all of Europe. Covering 380 km² with an additional 710 km² of protected area, it features over 100 glacier lakes and peaks reaching about 2500m at Peleaga.

Before you go
Connectivity
No mobile coverage or internet facilities in the park. Inform family of your plans before entering.
Food
Bring all food supplies. Huts offer basic meals for ~€3. Limited shopping in surrounding villages.
Money
Cash only. Shepherds sell milk for ~5 lei/liter. Mountain hut meals ~€3. No ATMs in the park area.
Packing
Pack out all waste—no garbage disposal at huts. Bring sufficient water, food, and emergency supplies for multi-day treks.
Safety
No vehicle access—Jeep/ATV prohibited with €500 fine. Carry all garbage out. Remote trails require proper hiking preparation.
Transport
Access via Ohaba de sub Piatră train station, then taxi or minivan to Cârnic entrance. No confirmed shuttle schedule—research local buses in Deva or Hunedoara beforehand.
