Overview
Rengasdengklok is a small West Javan town of primarily historical importance: it was here that nationalist leader Soekarno was brought on 16 August 1945 after being kidnapped by the PETA militia. In this house, the first draft of Indonesia's declaration of independence was prepared before Soekarno was returned to Jakarta, where the proclamation was read the following day.
