Overview
Qamishli was founded in the 1920s by Assyrian peoples escaping the genocide inflicted by the Ottoman Empire. Today it serves as the capital of the self-declared Kurdish autonomous region Rojava, making it a unique destination where Kurdish and Syrian government control coexist uneasily within the same city.
