Overview
Pu'er is a prefecture-level city in Southern Yunnan, previously known as Sīmáo, with a population of 2.34 million as of 2024. It has been a center for trade, mainly with Myanmar, for centuries and is perhaps best known for its eponymous Pu'er tea.

Currency is Chinese Yuan (CNY). ATMs and mobile payment apps are widely available in urban areas.
Transport
Pu'er Simao Airport has limited flights from Changsha, Chengdu, Kunming, and Mangshi. Train from Kunming takes 2½-3½ hours. Local buses 3 and K1 connect the railway station to the city.

Pu'er has a warm, humid plateau climate with four seasons like spring year-round, conducive to tea cultivation and outdoor exploration.
