Overview
Ptuj is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia, with continuous settlement dating back 2,000 years to Roman times when it was named Colonia Ulpia Traiana Poetovio and housed 40,000 residents—a population the city has never matched since. Today it serves as the carnival capital of Slovenia, hosting the famous Kurentovanje festival, while offering thermal spas, medieval architecture, and a network of wine cellars in the lower Podravje wine region.
