Overview
Petatán exists almost entirely because of the American white pelicans that descend on Lake Chapala each winter in extraordinary numbers. The local name for these birds is 'pelícano borregón', and watching them crowd the rocky shoreline and float in formation on the lake is a memorable experience even for non-birders.
