Overview
Perm is a large industrial city on the Kama River at the western foothills of the Ural Mountains with a population of approximately 1 million. Many pass through on the Trans-Siberian Railway, but few stay—unless seeking a break from train travel.

Russian Ruble (RUB) is the local currency. ATMs are widely available. Credit cards accepted at larger hotels and restaurants but carry cash for markets and smaller establishments.
Safety
Reckless drivers are the main safety concern. Watch for pickpockets on crowded public transport and in markets. Avoid city parks at night.
Transport
Perm stretches 25 km along the Kama River. Tram and bus tickets cost 20 RUB each and must be purchased from the driver. Public transport runs 05:30-00:30.
Weather
Expect harsh winters from November to March. Indoor spaces and public transport are well heated despite freezing outdoor temperatures.
