Overview

Pereslavl Zalessky is a compact medieval city on the Golden Ring route where Prince Yuri Dolgoruky founded his outpost in 1152, five years before Moscow. The city is the birthplace of Alexander Nevsky and the site where young Tsar Peter I trained his future navy on Plescheyevo lake, creating the cradle of the Russian Fleet.

History

Founded in 1152, the city was ransacked by Mongols and later Polish-Lithuanian armies. Birthplace of Alexander Nevsky; site of Peter the Great's early naval training.
