Overview

Panjin is a mid-sized industrial city in Liaoning Province that has become famous among Chinese tourists for its extraordinary Red Beach — a tidal wetland where large-scale growth of red seaweeds (Suaeda salsa) turns the shoreline into a vivid crimson carpet from late summer into autumn. The surrounding wetlands are a protected nature reserve and habitat for rare birds including red-crowned cranes and black-billed gulls.
