Palekh is a tiny village with a big artistic reputation: birthplace of the 19th-century Palekh school of icon and mural painting, and creator of the distinctive lacquer painted miniatures famous across Russia. Everything worth seeing is concentrated on ul.

Language
Russian is the only language. Minimal English signage. Learn basic Cyrillic for street names. Museum staff may speak some English.
Money
Russia uses Russian Rubles (RUB). Cards accepted at museums but cash preferred at local shops. Exchange currency in Ivanovo before visiting.
Museums
The State Museum of Palekh Art (200 RUB single ticket) covers three sites: miniatures, icons, and Golikov house-museum. Open Tu-Su 10:00-17:00, closed last Friday of month.
Packing
Bring snacks — Palekh has no tourist-oriented restaurants. Good walking shoes recommended to explore ul. Lenina and ul. Bakanova.
Transport
Palekh has no train station — arrive by bus from Ivanovo (2 hours, ~100-150 RUB) or Shuya. No local public transport exists; everything is walkable.
