Overview
Oughterard is a small town on Lough Corrib's shores, 26 km northwest of Galway city, with a 2022 population of 1800. It's best known for the stone arch bridge featured in the 1952 film 'The Quiet Man' starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, and it inspired 'The Irish RM' published from 1899 and televised 1983-85.

Fishing on Lough Corrib is free but requires boat hire. Golf at Oughterard Golf Club (5860 m, par 72). Gaelic football on the pitch east of town.

Transport
Citylink and Bus Éireann run every 1-2 hours from Galway. The bus stop is in the town centre. You'll need a car for anywhere off N59.
