Why go?
Oslob is a small fishing village on Cebu Island's southern tip that has transformed into a tourist stop due to resident whale sharks that swim close to shore. Visitors come primarily for the whale shark watching experience, though this attraction is controversial since fishermen lure the creatures by feeding them. The village also offers access to Tumalog Falls and Sumilon Island for those wanting to extend their stay.

Getting in
Most visitors come on a day tour from Cebu City or Dumaguete, costing PHP 2500-3500 per group with a minimum of four people (2016). By bus from Cebu City takes about 3 hours; from Moalboal, take a 1.5-hour bus to Bato, then a 20-minute ride to Oslob. From Dumaguete, take a jeepney (PHP 10) or tricycle (PHP 150) to Sibulan port, then a 30-minute ferry crossing (PHP 60) to Cebu Island, followed by a 20-minute tricycle (PHP 200) or jeepney (PHP 15) to Oslob. Jetties and buses are synchronized so buses wait for arriving ferries.

When to go
Whale shark watching runs from 6:30AM to noon daily, with the animals most active in morning hours. The dry season (December to May) offers the best weather for combining whale shark encounters with nearby waterfalls and island visits. Afternoon thunderstorms are common during the wet season from June to November.
