Why Go
Alona Beach is Bohol province's most popular resort area and the island's social hub. The beach is less than a mile long with everything walkable: dive shops, restaurants, bars, and tour operators clustered along the shore. Despite development pushing many places mid-range, budget accommodation still exists and even "splurge" options are cheap by international standards at early-2026 exchange rates.

Getting In
Most visitors arrive by ferry to Tagbilaran port and go directly to Alona Beach without stopping. Panglao Airport (TAG) is just a few kilometers away. Both routes end with a tricycle ride to the beach area, the most common form of ground transport.

Getting Around
Within Alona Beach, everything is walkable since the beach is under a mile long. Anywhere else on Panglao Island or nearby Tagbilaran is reached by jeepney or tricycle, which can be found where a road meets the middle of the beach. Organized boat tours serve dive sites while buses handle scenic land destinations.

When To Go
Alona Beach can be visited year-round, though the dry season from November to May offers the most reliable weather for diving and beach activities. Dolphin watching boats depart at dawn, so an early start is essential.

Where To Stay
Alona was originally a backpacker destination and still has budget options like Casa-Nova Garden (fan rooms from ₱300) and Chill-out Guesthouse (fan double ₱1000). Mid-range choices include Panglao Regents Park (from ₱1,800) and Alona Kew White Beach Resort (from ₱2,000). Luxury properties like Amorita Resort start at ₱9,000 with infinity pool and spa.

Food and Drink
About twenty restaurants and bars line the sea front, nearly all with international menus and mid-to-high prices. Trudi's on the beach is relatively cheap and quite good. Pyramid Bar and Restaurant serves fresh seafood plus Western fare in an al fresco setting with torchlit nighttime ambiance. Most drinks are under ₱100, making bar-hopping affordable by international standards.

Things To Do
Diving is the main activity: Pata Negra, Piratas, and Reef Seekers all offer PADI courses and daily trips to Balicasag, Pamilacan, and Cabilao islands. Dolphin watching boats leave at dawn—book a day ahead. Snorkeling, boat tours, and land excursions to Bohol's chocolate hills and tarsier sanctuary are also available.

Safety
Alona Beach is generally safe for tourists. However, Jadski money changer near the police office has reported credit card theft incidents—use cash instead. Standard beach safety precautions apply for swimming and boat trips.

Connectivity
Most hotels and virtually all bars and restaurants offer free WiFi, usually reasonably fast. Mobile data via local SIM cards (Globe or Smart) provides additional connectivity off the beach.
