Obninsk is a compact, planned Soviet-era science city that served as the birthplace of Soviet nuclear science. It's best visited as a day trip from Moscow or as a stopover between Moscow and Kaluga.

Russian is the language. English signage is limited outside the science institutes. Learning basic Russian phrases is helpful.
Transport
Obninsk is on the main rail line between Moscow and Kyiv. The A130 highway passes through. Buses and marshrutkas connect to surrounding towns.
Weather
Winters are cold (January avg -9°C) with snow; summers are warm and humid (July avg +18°C). Pack accordingly for the season of your visit.
