Overview
Nova Iguaçu is the second largest city in Baixada Fluminense, serving as a regional hub for the northern municipalities of Greater Rio. The city holds historical significance as the municipality from which the largest number of districts were dismembered during the 20th century, including Duque de Caxias, São João de Meriti, Nilópolis, and others between 1943 and 1999.
