Overview
Nîmes preserves Roman monuments in remarkable condition, headlined by the Maison Carrée—considered the finest surviving Roman temple in the world. The city's Roman Amphitheatre (Les Arènes) remains in active use, hosting concerts and the famous Féria de Nîmes bull-fighting festival each September.

Before you go
Language
French is the official language. Staff at the tourist office and larger hotels speak English, but smaller restaurants may have limited English.
Money
France uses the Euro (€). Most restaurants and hotels accept cards, but carry cash for smaller establishments and markets.
Tickets
The combined Roman sites ticket (€12 adults, €10 children/students) offers better value than single-site entry at Les Arènes (€10).
Transport
Nîmes Airport is 20 km from the centre; shuttle buses cost €6.80 one-way but run only for flights—miss it and you face a taxi or walk.
