Overview
Nesebar's old town sits on a former island connected by a narrow causeway, preserving one of Bulgaria's densest concentrations of medieval churches—many older than the nation itself. The UNESCO World Heritage site includes submerged ruins beneath the Black Sea, making it the town with most churches per capita in Bulgaria.

Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile coverage good throughout. SIM cards available in Bulgaria from Mtel, Vivacom, and Telenor. Power plugs use Type F (Schuko) standard.
Food
Old town restaurants use aggressive touts and are overpriced. Best budget option is Vegetarian Healthy Menu (3-4 лв lunch). Bulgarian beer excellent value.
Safety
Very safe town overall. Persistent shop touts are the main annoyance—firm 'no' usually works. Pickpocketing rare.
Transport
Bus station sits at old town entrance; regular buses from Sunny Beach (20-30 min) and Burgas (45 min). Park outside old town if driving—the narrow cobblestones are impractical for vehicles.
Weather
Peak season June-August brings crowds; May and September offer milder weather and fewer visitors. Museums close weekends in winter.
