Overview
Narai (奈良井) is one of the best-preserved post-towns along Japan's historic Nakasendo trail that once connected Tokyo and Kyoto. It was nicknamed 'Narai of a Thousand Houses' due to the many merchants' residences lining its main street, and was the wealthiest post-town in the Kiso Valley during the Edo period.
