Overview
Myeik serves as the main gateway to the Mergui Archipelago, a remote chain of around 800 islands that remained off-limits to foreigners until 1997. The islands offer pristine coral reefs for diving and uninhabited beaches rarely found elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

Accommodation
Options are limited for foreigners. Best-rated is Eain Taw Phyu Hotel (from US$60) or Regent Hotel (from US$40 with pool). Book ahead as choices are few.
Etiquette
Cover shoulders and knees at pagodas; remove shoes before entering. Dress modestly throughout this conservative Buddhist area.
Food
The evening food market on Strand Road (16:00-22:00) offers fresh seafood and local dishes from 1,000-2,000 kyat. Sweet nipa juice is only available October-December—drink only with boiled sticky rice.
Money
Local banks have ATMs accepting Visa and MasterCard for withdrawals. USD is also widely accepted alongside Myanmar Kyat (MMK). Budget around 3,000-5,000 kyat per day for basic meals.
Transport
Tuk-tuks are the main local transport within Myeik. Long-distance travel by bus connects to Dawei (north) and Bokepyin/Kawthaung (south). Domestic flights operate to Yangon.
