Money
ATMs are limited in Mount Carmel Junction. Carry sufficient cash for small purchases. Credit cards accepted at most motels and larger restaurants.
Packing
Bring all supplies from larger towns if possible. Groceries and supplies are limited and expensive in the local area.
Safety
Flash flooding is a serious risk in slot canyons. Never enter canyons if rain is threatening. Carry 2+ liters of water per person, wear sun protection, and hike during morning hours in summer.
Transport
No public transportation exists in Mount Carmel Junction. A rental car is essential for exploring the area. Large vehicles (RVs over 7'10" wide) must use Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel only from 8AM-8PM with escort.
Weather
Summer temperatures exceed 100°F in canyon areas. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer the most comfortable conditions. Winter brings cold temperatures and occasional snow closures at higher elevations.
