Overview
The Miyako Islands offer a rare combination: some of Japan's most beautiful beaches, excellent diving, authentic Okinawan cuisine, and a genuinely relaxed island pace without international tourist infrastructure. While popular with Japanese visitors, international travelers remain rare, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a less-visited side of Okinawa beyond Naha's crowds.
