Overview
Melk is a small town (~5,000 residents) on the south bank of the Danube in the Wachau Valley, Lower Austria. The town is dominated by its massive Benedictine Abbey, a Baroque masterpiece perched on a bluff overlooking the river.

Stiftrestaurant near the Abbey serves €8-13 main courses. Hotel restaurants are open daily or Wed-Sun. Wachau apricot products and local white wines are regional specialties.

Weather
Best visited April-October. Abbey hours are reduced November-March (guided tours only). Boat services operate seasonally April-October.
