Before you go
Access
Only Muslims and followers of Islam may enter Mecca. Non-Muslims cannot enter except for the Mecca bus terminal outside city limits. Ahmadiyya followers are also prohibited.
Connectivity
Four mobile operators: Al Jawal (STC), Mobily, Zain, and Jawwy. SIM cards available at airports and local shops. WiFi common in hotels and malls.
Culture
Modest dress is required. Alcohol and pork products are prohibited. Friday is a holy day with special significance. The Islamic calendar determines all religious events and the Hajj timing.

Money
Currency is Saudi Riyal (SAR). ATMs are widely available. Credit cards are accepted at major hotels and restaurants. Tipping is customary but not obligatory.
Transport
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah serves pilgrims with a dedicated Hajj terminal. SAPTCO buses operate from stations near Makkah Medical Center and the VIP station near the Haram.
Weather
Summers are extremely hot (40-44°C). Winter months (December-February) are milder (20-32°C) with occasional rain. Hajj season timing varies yearly.
