Overview
Mbeya is Tanzania's southwestern gateway for overland travelers heading to Malawi and Zambia, and the access point for Lake Tanganyika. The city itself is compact and walkable, but the real appeal is the surrounding Southern Highlands: hikes up Loleza Peak (2,656 m) and Mbeya Peak (2,820 m), plus day trips to crater lakes, waterfalls, and the famous Kitulo plateau.
