Overview
Martvili is a small district town in Mingrelia, known for its 7th-century Chkondidi Cathedral and the nearby Martvili Canyon with dinosaur footprints and waterfall swims. The Dadiani Forest Park and Okaze Gorge offer excellent canyoning and hiking 15 km north, making it a natural-adventure hub for budget travelers seeking something off the standard Georgian trail.

Money
Georgia uses the GEL (lari). ATMs are limited in Martvili; withdraw cash in Kutaisi or Zugdidi before arriving. Many guesthouses and restaurants are cash-only.
Transport
Marshrutkas are the main public transport; hitchhiking is also common in rural Georgia. A taxi to the canyon from town costs roughly 10–15 GEL.
