Overview
Mapusa is North Goa's main commercial centre outside of Panaji, drawing locals for shopping and commerce. The star attraction is the colourful weekly Friday Market, which runs from early morning to late evening and draws increasing numbers of tourists alongside locals.

Traditional Goan food in Catholic and Hindu styles available at Cafe Xavier and Babaji's outlet. Roadside stalls near the taxi stand serve local cold drinks and snacks. The Friday Market has food sections.

Mapusa uses Indian Rupees (₹). ATMs are available in town. The Friday Market is largely cash-based. Budget travellers can get by on ₹500-1000/day including accommodation at the youth hostel.
Transport
Local bus services connect Mapusa to Panaji and beach areas. Evening buses to Mumbai and Pune depart from the Mapusa bus stand. Motorcycle taxis (auto-rickshaws) are the main way to get around town.
Weather
Best visited November through February. The Friday Market runs every Friday rain or shine. Summer (March-May) can be very hot.
