Overview
Madera (2,112m elevation) is a small lumber town founded in 1906 in the Sierra Madre Occidental, offering cool highland climate and dense pine forests. The area holds significant Anasazi (Mogollon culture) archaeological sites with cliff dwellings, plus a unique Revolutionary-era history including a 1965 leftist guerrilla insurrection that drew paratroopers.
