Overview
Lutsk is one of Ukraine's most ancient cities, founded around 1000 CE at a bend of the Styr River. The city served as an important center of the Kievan Rus kingdom and later hosted the 1429 Congress of European Monarchs.

Lutsk was historically called the "Rome of Volyn" for its many religious buildings. The city preserves architecture from multiple eras including medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-gothic styles.

Local currency is Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH). ATMs are available throughout the city. Major hotels and restaurants may accept cards, but smaller establishments often require cash.
Safety
General urban precautions apply. The area around bus and train stations has a large outdoor bazaar that can be disorienting—carry a map and plan your route in advance.
Transport
Trolleybuses and marshrutky connect the train and bus stations to the city center. Ride-sharing apps Uber, Bolt, Uklon, OnTaxi, Opti, and Shark operate in Lutsk.
