Why go?

Lviv is a major Ukrainian cultural centre on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visiting Lviv is very rewarding for the pioneer traveller, as living is extremely cheap here and the place has a truly authentic feeling, unlike places like Kraków or Prague, which are swamped with tourists.

Getting in

Lviv is served by the Central Railway Station (Dvirtseva Sq, 1) with trains from major cities. Bus station No.1 at Stryiskyi 109 has international buses from Warsaw, Przemyśl, Lublin, Wrocław and Prague.

Trams and buses cover the city; taxis are available via apps like Uber, Bolt, and Uklon. The historic centre is walkable. Bike rental is available through nextbike and BikeNow.

When to go

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and fewer crowds. Winters are cold and snowy but have a festive charm. August can be hot. Avoid large Ukrainian holidays if you dislike crowds. The war context means air raid alerts are possible year-round.

Food & drink

Ukraine has a fantastic beer scene; cheap draft beer 60-80 UAH, craft 120-160 UAH. Local specialties: kovbasa, vereniky, borscht. Try Puzata Hata for Ukrainian smörgåsbord or Viden’ska Kavyarnia for Wiener Schnitzel.

    Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr

    The sanctuary was built by the animal welfare organisation Four Paws in 2016. The whole area comprises 20 ha and offers guided tours and exhibitions for environmental education.

    Bohdan Khmelnytsky Culture and Recreation Park

    in the Halych district of the city , interesting garden art local value (1984). It's one of the best organized and modern green zones containing a concert and dance hall, stadium, the town of attractions, central stage, numerous cafes and restaurants. In the park there are Ferris wheel. Between the streets Striyske , Guardyisko , Vitovskogo and Zaritsky. At the top of the park is culture Glory Monument. The area of ​​the park is 26 hectares.
