Overview
Lovćen National Park is a compact but dramatic mountain reserve in central Montenegro, sandwiched between the coastal towns of Kotor and Budva and the former capital Cetinje. Its centerpiece is the grand Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš, one of Montenegro's most revered historical figures, perched at 1,657 m on Jezerski Vrh (Lake Peak).

Before you go
Food
Njeguši pršut (dry-cured ham) is a regional specialty worth trying at local konobas. Konoba Krstac near the park offers budget-friendly meals with WiFi.
Money
Euros (EUR) are used in Montenegro. ATMs are available in nearby towns like Kotor and Budva but not at the park itself. Carry sufficient cash for park fees and village restaurants.
Packing
Bring sturdy hiking shoes, water, and snacks for trails. The mausoleum climb involves 500 steps—skip if you have mobility issues. Sunscreen and a hat are essential.
Transport
No public buses serve Lovćen directly. Rent a car or join an organized tour from Kotor, Budva, or Cetinje. The mountain road has many sharp bends—allow extra travel time.
Weather
Mountain weather is unpredictable. Even in summer, temperatures drop significantly at elevation. Dress in layers and bring sun protection for daytime hikes.
