Longyan is a small city by Chinese standards with about 2.5 million residents in Fujian Province. Most visitors end up here passing through to see the UNESCO-listed Fujian Tulou Hakka earth houses in Yongding County.

Hakka cuisine dominates—try local specialty stir-fries at country-restaurants for ¥20. Walking street has food stalls open late.
Language
Minnan is spoken in eastern urban areas, Hakka in western rural areas. Mandarin is understood by younger people. Very few English speakers.
Money
Chinese yuan (CNY/¥) accepted everywhere. Use Alipay and WeChat for digital payments. ATMs available in city center.
Transport
Use Didi app for reliable taxis; public buses cost ¥1. Arrange tulou visits through hotels for ¥200-300/day vehicle rental.

Best visited spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November). Summers hot and rainy; winters cool and drier.
