Overview
Limerick is a compact Irish city of about 102,000 people that punches above its weight for history and culture. It grew at the tidal limit of the River Shannon, developing from a Viking settlement called Hlymrekr into a medieval stronghold, then a Georgian city rebuilt on a grid pattern comparable to Dublin.
