Lanzhou is a regional capital of 4.5 million people where the Yellow River cuts through Gansu province. It served as a major Silk Road stop and Buddhist learning center from the 5th to 11th centuries, known then as the Golden City.

WeChat is essential for payments, museum bookings, and transport. SIM cards available from China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom with good 4G coverage.
Culture
Several historic mosques (Xiguan, Qiaomenjie, Nanguan Grand) and temples (White Cloud Temple/Taoist) are open to visitors. Dress modestly at religious sites.
Food
Lanzhou beef noodle soup (niurou lamian) is the signature dish at ¥15. Look for halal options from Muslim Hui vendors. Night markets open from mid-afternoon.
Money
WeChat Pay and Alipay are widely accepted. Cash (CNY) is needed for street food, small shops, and markets. ATMs are available throughout the city.
Transport
Lanzhou West Railway Station is the main hub for high-speed trains. The airport shuttle bus departs from near the #1 Bus terminus. Metro Line 1 connects downtown to West Railway Station.
