Overview
La Tigra National Park is Honduras's most popular park, offering mountainous rainforest hiking just 27 km from Tegucigalpa. The park harbors over 350 bird species, making it ideal for birdwatching, and features seven marked trails ranging from easy 1 km walks to demanding 6.3 km treks that can take 6+ hours.

Money
Entry fee is 240 lempira for foreigners (US$10 equivalent). Pay at El Rosario or Jitiapa visitor centers.
Packing
Essentials: water, poncho, mosquito repellent, light jacket, good hiking shoes, and a clean pair of shoes for after the hike.
Safety
Bring poncho, mosquito repellent, 1L+ water per person, light jacket for cloud forest, and sturdy hiking shoes. Trails are rocky and muddy.
Transport
The park is 27 km north of Tegucigalpa via V-660. Roads to the main entrance are paved; alternate routes via RN25 become steep dirt tracks requiring 4WD.
Weather
Rainy season runs May-November with heavy rainfall making trails muddy. Cloud forest at higher elevations stays cool and foggy year-round.
