Overview
Kaziranga is one of India's oldest national parks and the world's largest habitat for the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, sheltering approximately 2,400 of the 3,600 remaining globally. The park draws over 170,000 visitors annually who come to witness rhinos, wild buffalo, tigers, and swamp deer in their natural grassland and wetland habitat.

Before you go
Climate
Tropical climate with extreme summer heat (April-June) and cold nights in winter (November-January). Monsoon floods close the park May-August. Best visiting: September-October and February-March.
Money
Carry cash for park fees and local purchases as card facilities are limited in Kohora. Entry ₹500 foreigners/₹100 Indians.
Packing
Bring binoculars, camera with zoom lens, light layers for winter mornings, and sunscreen. Elephant rides operate from 5:00 AM so early rising is essential.
Safety
No hiking permitted inside the park. Armed guards shoot trespassers on sight. Malaria risk is low during peak visiting season (winter months).
Transport
Jeep safaris (₹1,800-2,200) and elephant rides (₹950-1,950) are the only permitted park transport. Book through your hotel before 19:00 the previous day.
