Overview
Kashihara was the site of Fujiwarakyo, Japan's first Chinese-style imperial capital built in 694 AD, predating Nara's Heijōkyō. The city preserves ancient palace ruins, the important Kashihara Shrine (where Emperor Jimmu is said to have ascended the throne), and the hill Unebi Yama offering panoramic views.
